Color measurement of cereals
For breakfast or as a snack between meals: muesli, flakes and flakes in all sizes, shapes, colors and flavors are made from grains such as corn, wheat, rice, millet, spelt, oats, barley and rye. In many cases, the color of the cereals is measured to ensure batch consistency with demanding color standards.
As with most foods, consumer perception of cereal flavor is closely linked to color. HunterLab was the first company to receive USDA approval for the industrial evaluation of food color, and many of the world’s leading cereal producers rely on HunterLab’s quality control solutions, including General Mills, Kellogg’s, Purina and Gilster-Mary Lee.
Our solutions for cereals:
Aeros
Laboratory device for measuring color and degree of browning
-
Non-contact measurement
The sensor detects the sample without contact, without having to measure through plastic or glass.
-
Large surface area
The rotating sample plate captures over 170 cm2 of the sample in 35 measurements in 7 seconds. -
Integrated QC software
The EasyMatch QC Essentials quality control software is integrated into the device and provides all the required color indices and metrics.
-
Intelligent height adjustment
The distance sensor automatically compensates for height differences in irregular samples. -
Smart user interface
Your measurement results can be easily transferred to existing LIMS or SPC systems. -
Uncomplicated & precise
Simple "one touch" measurement reduces training time, optimizes the workflow and increases your productivity.
Application example:
Since cereals consist of individual, non-uniform particles, the surface is considered here as a whole. For the color measurement of cereals with the Aeros from HunterLab, the product of a batch is filled several times into a bowl, which rotates under the eccentrically positioned sensor (the bowl size can be varied depending on the available sample quantity). During rotation, several measurements are taken in succession and the average value is automatically calculated. Due to the unusually large measuring surface that is scanned, the color of the food can be reproduced very accurately. As this non-contact measuring method is very user-friendly and the measurement results are extremely...
